Acceptable credit: content or professional education course work earned after the conferral of the bachelor's degree.
Accredited: has the meaning stated in B(14) of this regulation.
Accredited nonpublic school: a nonpublic school accredited by a national organization, regional organization, or state board of education.
Applicant: an individual who has initiated a written request for certification and has completed all application requirements under Regulation .07 of this chapter.
Appropriate certificate for:
(a) A teacher means a professional certificate, a resident teacher certificate, or a provisional certificate;
(b) A specialist means a professional certificate or a provisional certificate if the applicant is within 6 semester hours of the professional certificate; and
(c) An administrator means a professional certificate, an alternative principal certificate, or a provisional certificate if the applicant is within 6 semester hours of the professional certificate.
Content course work: course work completed in academic disciplines as differentiated from professional education course work.
Content mastery verification: a review used to determine the appropriateness of course work or other experiences in the certification area sought by the applicant.
Continuing education units (CEU): credit earned through course work approved by the State Department of Education or issued by a state department of education or a regionally accredited college.
Crime against children: any crime defined in Article 27, 35A, Annotated Code of Maryland.
Crime of violence: any crime as defined in Article 27, 643B, Annotated Code of Maryland.
Essential dimensions of teaching: outcomes consistent with the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification standards and identified by the State Board of Education for approval of Maryland Teacher Education Programs under Regulation .04B of this chapter.
Full-time teaching experience: a period of not less than 9 consecutive months as the responsible teacher in a classroom pursuant to an appointment requiring service for 50 percent or more of the school day during 50 percent or more of the school year.
