Testing Information - General

Who Must Take the Tests?

All candidates applying for an initial teacher certificate are required to present qualifying scores on the Praxis I Academic Skills Assessments, ACT, SAT, or GRE and the appropriate content and pedagogy assessments where required (Praxis II or ACTFL). The tests may be taken at any valid test site in the nation. Applicants must meet current testing requirements at the time of application.

Out-of-state candidates who do not hold a professional certificate from their respective state must meet Maryland's qualifying scores. Some out-of-state candidates may be eligible for a test exemption.

Where Can I Get Additional Test Information?

You can get information on registration procedures, fees, and forms as well as test dates and locations in The PRAXIS Series Registration Bulletin, which is available at college and university teacher education offices, at university test centers, or through the EducationalTesting Service at the following address:

  • notation on an official college transcript;
  • photocopy of examinee's score report;  or
