MARYLAND PRINCIPALS' ACADEMY
JULY 29, 2009 & July 30, 2009
 

Who: Approximately 135 principals from Maryland public school systems.

What: The Division for Leadership Development at the Maryland State Department of Education will launch its ninth annual Maryland Principals' Academy from July 29 - 30, 2009. This yearlong professional development experience is designed to build leadership capacity for the participants who are in their first five years of experience as principals. The content of the Academy is based on the Maryland Instructional Leadership Framework which defines standards for instructional leaders in the State of Maryland.

Eligibility Requirements

  •  Nominated by the local superintendent
  •  Completed the first year as a principal but not more than five years
  •  Committed to completing the yearlong Academy experience
  •  Completion of the Academy project

Program Delivery Systems

  • Division for Leadership Development staff and trained veteran principals design and deliver professional development sessions for building leadership skills
  • Current information from national, state, and local speakers and researchers who address specific ideas and strategies for increasing teacher and student learning
  • Networking opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues and
    experienced principals
  • Research-based materials and texts that stimulate thinking and guide discussion about continuous school improvement
