Task Force to Study Adult Education Services in Maryland The Task Force was established by Maryland Senate Bill 399 in May, 2001. The Charge
Study Adult Education Issues including: - The statewide need for adult education services, including instruction for adults in basic skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and family literacy and preparation for the GED and the adult external high school program;
- The impact of adult education on workforce economic development;
- The existing levels of service for adults without a high school diploma or its equivalent, on a county-by-county basis ( including Baltimore City)
- The existing levels of adult education services for adults who are incarcerated or on probation;
- The current funding process and level of funding for existing programs in each county and Baltimore City; and
- A comparison between Maryland and other states in the region regarding levels of need, service provided, and funding.
And
submit a report summarizing findings and recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly on or before November 1, 2001.
