City Springs School is a Baltimore Curriculum Project charter school, which serves pre-kindergarten through grade eight in Southeast Baltimore. City Springs began as a regular neighborhood public school that converted to charter while remaining in the existing facility and continuing to serve the neighborhood that is zoned to it.  The faculty at City Springs relies on a challenging Direct Instruction curriculum (combining Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge) that emphasizes reading, writing, mathematics, geography, history, science, and world civilization. Working with Principal Whelchel and the City Springs community, the Baltimore Curriculum Project has transformed City Springs into a productive and nurturing learning environment. The school has gained national recognition for its impressive academic gains and is considered a national model for school reform.
