As part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001, any school that is in Year Two of Improvement, Restructuring, or in Corrective Action must offer supplemental educational services (SES) to eligible children from a provider approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and selected by the parents [Section 1116(e)(1)].
Supplemental educational services are free tutoring and other educational interventions that target students from low-income families in Title I Schools in need of Improvement.
| MSDE's Request for Qualifying Providers (RFQ) describes the application process that potential SES providers must use to become eligible to offer instruction in the State. The deadline for the proposals for the 2008-2009 school year is over, but an RFQ is issued once a year, usually in December.
