Christine Roland, Biology Teacher
Edgewood High School, Harford County

Christine Roland, 42, is a fifth year Biology/Forensic Science teacher at Edgewood High School. A native of Switzerland, she worked in advertising, and later taught SCUBA diving in Egypt and Honduras before coming to the United States and earning her biology degree. After the birth of her children, she earned her teaching certification and began her career in the classroom. She established herself as an incredibly creative and dynamic teacher, incorporating biotechnology and forensic science into her classroom. In her second year, Mrs. Roland united students to complete the cross curricular activity "CSI at Edgewood High". Last year, she created and produced a DVD called "The Dancing Nucleotides" during which students acted out the central dogma of molecular biology.
