The Maryland Juvenile Services Education System (JSES) offers credit-bearing mathematics courses aligned to the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards. Courses offered include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus.

MSDE Mathematics Requirements

Enrollment and Credit Requirements

Students must enroll in a mathematics class each year of high school. Students are required to successfully earn three credits of mathematics, including:

  • one in Algebra aligned to the Maryland High School Assessment
  • one in Geometry

In order to be considered for acceptance to a school in the University System of Maryland, students must have completed four years of mathematics to include Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.

Assessment Requirements

Students may meet the mathematics assessment graduation requirement in the following ways:

  • achieve a passing score on the Maryland High school assessment for Algebra I, or
  • achieve a combined score on the Maryland High School Assessments, or
  • satisfactorily complete an Algebra Bridge Plan for Academic Validation
