The Maryland Juvenile Services Education System (JSES) offers credit- bearing social studies courses aligned to the Maryland Social Studies Standards. Courses offered include American Government, United States History, and World History.

Maryland Social Studies Requirements

Credit Requirements

Students are required to successfully earn three credits of social studies, including:

  • one in United States History
  • one in World History
  • one in American Government aligned to the Maryland High

In order to be considered for acceptance to a school in the University System of Maryland students must have completed three years of social studies.

Assessment Requirements

Students may meet the mathematics assessment graduation requirement in the following ways:

  • Achieve a passing score on the Maryland High School Assessment for Government, or
  • Achieve a combined score on the Maryland High School Assessments, or
  • Satisfactorily complete a Government Bridge Plan for Academic Validation
