Rockville, MarylandThe Alfred D. Noyes Children's Center (ADNCC) is located in Rockville, a city in central Montgomery County. The facility provides secure detention services to 57 male and female youth. The Juvenile Services Education (JSE) program provides 6 hours of weekday instruction in four subjects: Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Computer Literacy, and Career Development/Life Skills. There are 11 JSE staff members, including a principal, 4 academic teachers, 2 special educators, 1 resource teacher, a library/media specialist, guidance counselor, and an office secretary.
Swanton, MDBackbone Mountain Youth Center (BBYC) is located on Backbone Mountain in Garrett County, Maryland. The Center serves up to 48 male youth ages 14-to-18 for 6-to-9 months of substance abuse treatment. The education program consists of a school principal, 4 instructional staff, a guidance counselor, special educator, instructional assistant, college program coordinator, and support staff coordinating student records acquisition.
Baltimore, MD Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center (BCJJC) provides centralized intake, assessment, court, detention services, and 144 beds for delinquent youth requiring detention. Given the large population, the Juvenile Services Education Program at BCJJC is comprised of 25 staff members. The staff includes a principal and guidance counselor, who assist the instructional staff with the delivery of core academic and career technology programming. Additionally, special education services are provided by four certified instructional staff and a lead special education teacher.
Charles H. Hickey Jr. School, is located in Parkville, Maryland. It houses young men detained awaiting trial or pending placement to a committed program. The Juvenile Services Education Program under MSDE assumed responsibility for the instructional program at this location in July 2004. Currently, the school staff consists of 21 instructional and support staff who provide the youth with six hours of daily instruction, including core academic subjects, special education, career technology education, library/media, and transition services.
Flintstone, MDGreen Ridge Youth Center (GRYC) is a treatment facility for up to 40 young men ages 13 to 18 located in Allegany County, Maryland. There are currently 3 programs: Mountain Quest, a 90-day Wilderness-based program for youths experiencing their first commitment; Revelations, an intensive, 6-to-9 month outpatient program; and Odyssey and Team Unity, a 6-to-9 month behavior and social modification treatment program. The education program consists of a school principal, 4 instructional staff, a guidance counselor, special educator, instructional assistant, and support staff coordinating student records acquisition.
Chestertown, MD The J. DeWeese Carter Center is a secure treatment facility for 15 girls in Chestertown. The Juvenile Services Education Program at Carter is comprised of seven staff members including a principal, special education teacher, two regular education teachers, a guidance counselor, an instructional assistant, and a secretary/records clerk. Students at the Carter Center receive instruction in core academic subjects and special education services, if eligible.
