The Family Advisory Council (FAC) will be composed of a diverse group of parents, legal guardians, and caregivers, from across all regions of Maryland. The FAC offers input and advice to the State Superintendent on matters related to student academic achievement, family and community engagement, and key education initiatives. By involving families in decision-making, the FAC helps shape policies and programs that align with families' strengths and needs. The FAC is committed to ensuring that family perspectives are integral to developing policies that enhance outcomes for Maryland students.
The council’s purpose is to offer insights and practical advice to support the implementation of sustainable practices through proactive, engaging, and high-quality discussions. MSDE needs family input because parents/guardians have the best understanding of the needs and experiences of their children. Parents/guardians can offer unique insight about existing and proposed policies and strategies based on their personal experiences in supporting their children’s education.
Be a parent, legal guardian, or other primary caregiver with at least 1 child enrolled in a Maryland public school, charter school, home school, or alternative school.
Demonstrate active engagement in their child’s education.
