Principal Advisory Council (MPAC)

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) invites principals to apply for membership to the 2024-25 Principal Advisory Council. Career and Technical Education (CTE) directors are encouraged to apply.


Purpose:

The Principal Advisory Council provides direct input to the State Superintendent of Schools about important issues in Maryland schools. Members will participate in discussions with the State Superintendent of Schools and other MSDE leaders concerning topics that will lead to improvement of Maryland public schools and the opportunities they afford. The goal of the council is to ensure excellent teaching and learning is happening in every classroom in every Maryland school and that school leaders have the information, resources, and support they need to create successful schools.


Council Member Qualifications:

  • Be a current principal or CTE director for at least three years and plan to remain a principal or CTE director for an additional three years.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to school improvement as evidenced by involvement at a school, community, state or national level, and supported by a letter of recommendation from your current district Superintendent/CEO or their designee.

  • Be knowledgeable about educational issues and demonstrate leadership.

  • Be willing to engage in constructive discussion about current issues in education.

  • Be willing to and able to travel to the in-person meetings in the Baltimore area and attend the virtual meetings when applicable.

Meetings:

  • 3 meetings throughout the year

  • Meeting length: 1.5 - 2 hours

  • 1 in-person meeting, virtual meetings
