What makes us unique?
Carroll Creek Montessori Public Charter School (CCMPCS) offers a Montessori-based learning environment as well as Spanish instruction for all students, ages 3 through 8th grade. Instruction includes Spanish, Physical Education, Music, Art, library, and computer lab. The beliefs of our school community rest strongly on Montessori principles. Adult and student behavior is intrinsic due to the independence provided to each member of the organization. Student learning is individual, student led, and self paced. Staff are given the autonomy to determine their professional needs and to initiate their own professional development.
Community:
Students participate in community service on an ongoing basis, collaborate about classroom norms and solve problems in community meetings, serve as role models to classmates and students in other levels, maintain the classrooms and school grounds, initiate micro-economies, and carry out recycling and composting throughout the school, dispose of litter at local city parks, and support Frederick County Rescue Mission
Mission and Vision:
CCMPCS’s mission is to build a community in which students, parents, and staff work together to educate the “whole child,” the sum of the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual parts. CCMPCS will implement a Montessori-based curriculum to give students the hands-on tools they need to be active learners both in and outside the classroom. By offering a content-based enrichment and conversational Spanish and English instructional program, students will develop strong language skills in both Spanish and English. CCMPCS will provide a unique opportunity for second language acquisition beginning at a young age, a critical component for development of language proficiency.

Principal's Message:
I am most proud of my school community when…
- I observe staff collaboration and the results of that collaboration in action. Our staff collaborate weekly in their cluster levels and on a rotating basis with other levels and the special education and special area staff. Each member of our staff brings a wide knowledge base with them and that is expanded upon in collaboration sessions. Their support of each other that then is reflected in support for students across the school has made our community strong and caring. When one fails, we all fail and when one succeeds, we all have a part in that, too.
- Our small, young school (seven years old this year) has faced many devastating crisis among our families and staff. Parents have died. Children have died. Houses have been lost in fires. There have been floods. Cancer has not passed over our parents nor our children. Each time we have been challenged the entire community, including families and staff, have risen to the occasion and provided support in many, many ways. Meal trains, gift cards, transportation, childcare and even pet sitting, if there was a need someone has always been right there to step in. Our students are watching. They see how the adults in our community react when others are in need. We are providing our students with the foundational beliefs to become caring adults who, when a need is observed will rise to action, not merely “wish'' they could help.
Community Members’ Intrinsic Motivation
- The beliefs of our school community rest strongly on Montessori principles. Adult and student behavior is intrinsic due to the independence provided to each member of the organization. Student learning is individual, student led, and self paced. Staff are given the autonomy to determine their professional needs and to initiate their own professional development. Parents have the opportunity to observe in their child’s classroom, attend parent education events, and read about Montessori in the weekly “Montessori Minute.”
- The school’s norms center around the belief that each member should do their best work at all times in order to implement the school’s mission and vision. Parents help with school communication, serve on the school’s Governing Council, chaperone field trips, make classroom materials, participate in Spanish conversation mornings, and provide childcare during Montessori education events. Students participate in community service on an ongoing basis, collaborate about classroom norms and solve problems in community meetings, serve as role models to classmates and students in other levels, maintain the classrooms and school grounds, initiate micro-economies, and carry out recycling and composting throughout the school. Teachers stay after, attend local and national conferences, volunteer to lead after school clubs, mentor one another, and regularly work late, on weeknights, and weekends.
