Maryland Youth Service Awards, April 2023

The Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism honored ten students and student groups during the Maryland Civic Education & Leadership Summit for their exemplary impact through service. Congratulations to Emma Beyer, Lexie Gamble, Meklit Mesfin, and the Profession Dress Closet Team of Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Grace Minakowski of Calvert County Public Schools, Flematu Fofana of Carroll County Public Schools, Dhruv Girish of Frederick County Public Schools, and Viveka Sinha, Lumina Zhang, and the Rise-N-Shine Foundation, Inc. of Montgomery County Public schools for this esteemed recognition.


BCPS Students Established the Nora Murray Memorial Walk, April 2023

Nora Murray was a highly respected service-learning coordinator for Baltimore County. Organized by Baltimore County student council students, this event honored Nora’s memory and raised money to support FINISH Sarcoma. 


Maryland Young Women Leaders Awards, March 2023

Indu Bodala and Mahlet Mesfin of Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Ilka Tona of Frederick County Public Schools, Amanda Wang of Howard County Public Schools, and Alondra Moreno Santana of Talbot County Public Schools were recognized as extraordinary young women who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership, community service, and academic excellence at the Governor's House in Annapolis.


MCPS Recognized by Martin Luther King III, February 2023

Nearly 4,000 Montgomery County Public School students participated in a week of service experiences in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. MCPS students received a special recognition video message from Martin Luther King III, son of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in celebration of their service initiatives.


AACPS Student Mahlet Mesfin received a Black History Month Leadership & Service Award, January 2023

Mahlet was one of six recipients of this award, and the only student recipient! The Black History Month Leadership & Service Award was awarded by the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism and the Banneker-Douglass Museum to honor the accomplishments of Black individuals and groups who changed Maryland for the better through service.


AACPS Teen Talk: Serving your Community, December 2022

Teen Talk is a show for students, by students, in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. In this episode, students and staff share their experiences with service - learning.


QACPS Received The Harris Wofford Common Good Award 2022

Queen Anne’s County Public Schools received this national award from Youth Service America for their Service-Learning Program that engages students in high-quality service-learning experiences in elementary, middle, and high school, integrates service-learning into required courses, and counts all student hours spent on the entire service-learning process.
