Education Policy Committee

To develop a legislative platform and review pending legislation that will advise the full State Board on legislation that will improve education statewide in Maryland; to review proposed changes from MSDE to the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR); and to monitor, advise, and make recommendations on all matters related to education policy, including but not limited to: academic performance, assessments, college and career readiness, curriculum, early childhood education, and educator certification. Education Policy Committee meetings are public meetings.


Education Transformation and Finance Committee

To support and facilitate the successful implementation of the State Board’s Strategic Plan, the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, and provide advice and recommendations on matters related to school finance and budget. Education Transformation and Finance Committee meetings are public meetings, with the exception being the consideration of budget matters that are subject to Executive Privilege.


Early Childhood Education and Care Workgroup

As a workgroup under the State Board's Education Transformation and Finance Committee, this workgroup will meet quarterly to work to strengthen communication, collaboration, and connection among early childhood stakeholders, existing MSDE early childhood committees, and the State Board of Education.


MSDE/SBOE Task Force on Cell Phone Use in Schools

The Task Force on Cell Phone Use in Schools is charged with reviewing current policies on allowable student use of cell phones in Maryland public schools and considering the latest research on the impact of personal devices on school climate and student wellbeing. The task force is made up of a broad-based group of experts from across the state, including parents, students, teachers, administrators, and superintendents. The task force will collaborate to generate guidance for Maryland districts by the spring of 2025.
