​The 2018-19 school year marks the sixth full year of implementation of higher academic standards for all students, in all 24 school systems.

These standards help our students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a competitive, 21st century economy.

Top 10 Things Parents Need to Know about Common Core State Standards, Educational standards, like the MCCRS, provide the foundation for a curriculum — establishing what students need to learn, but not dictating how the standards should be taught. In Maryland, State education experts and teachers have worked to determine the essential skills and knowledge that students must know and be able to do to meet each standard. Standards are knowledge and skills that students will need to know in order to be fully prepared for college and career. The Common Core State Standards are the foundation for the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards which guide what students should know and be able to do, at various points along the path of their educational journey.
