In order to both prepare students for meaningful lives of engagement and improve community life in the region, higher education and K12 school district leaders throughout Maryland, DC, and Delaware have convened and discussed ways to enhance P20 collaboration through partnerships.

Together, the region's college and university presidents and K12 superintendents have committed to increasing college readiness, career readiness, and civic and community readiness. To accomplish this, Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic and the Maryland State Department of Education have launched the P20 CONNECTS College, Career, and Civic Readiness Initiative.

The P20 CONNECTS initiative has two objectives:

  1. P20 CONNECTS will work to strengthen the pipeline for college, career, and civic readiness by creating "cascading" service-learning/civic engagement opportunities through which younger youth, in addition to college students, become change agents in their communities.

  2. P20 CONNECTS also encourages K12 and higher education institutions to examine existing policies and procedures to strengthen how systems are preparing youth for college, career, and civic readiness.

Both K12 school districts and higher education have valuable resources relating to service-learning and civic engagement. Through enhanced collaboration, K12 and higher education can maximize their potential and work to bring equity to civic and community engagement for all students.
