What makes us unique:

Chesapeake Math and IT South Public Charter (CMIT South) is one of only six statewide public charters to receive a four or five star rating in 2018-2019 from the MSDE. This 4 STAR rated MS/HS missed its five stars by a single percentage point in 2017-2018. CMIT South offers tuition-free, innovative STEM education with expansive course offerings, dual enrollment, early college, and is backed by the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation of schools’ non-profit Mission and Vision to deliver World Class Education Systems to unlock & maximize individual student potential. With our CMIT South Elementary expansion in walking distance, all local public K-12 general education requirements are met with increased opportunities to include: hands-on, project-based learning with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) support for all our students. This includes scheduling extra STEM courses and coursework, including coding. By Middle School, students should be Microsoft Office Certified Specialists. Once in High School, CLF Schools will offer Dual Enrollment, AP Courses, Information Technology Early College, and other college/university/career exposure to propel our students’ development of their own maximum potential through partnerships from global to local area businesses and education systems.

Chesapeake Math and IT South Public Charter operates under the CLF mission to maximizing the individual potential of each student. True to the Triad Success Model, we have high expectations for each branch of this Triangle: Student-Teacher-Parent. Each must be at and give 100% for the maximum potentials of our students to truly be realized. Each angle supports and requires support from the other team members. To help at each angle, CLF promotes the use of our learning center(s), tutoring, Saturday School, before/after school enrichment, PSAT/SAT Test Prep., home visits, college/career counseling, and participation in STEM/STEAM events.

Community:

CLF supports its STEM schools with an array of staff, infrastructure, logistics, momentum, and financial solutions. CMIT South has risen to not only meet the STEM challenges available and required by all eligible CLF schools to actively participate in Science Olympiads, Math Olympiads, our annual CLF MakerFEST, CLF CultureFEST, and CLF Black History Essay & Poster Contest, but often leads these community events. CMIT South also participates in local, & state competitions too numerous to list here.

CMIT South, like all CLF schools, offers the Ben Belucci Basketball Program, TRAC Bridge Building, County-State-National STEM competitions FIRST LEGO League (FLL), VEX Robotics, and most recently, CMIT South MS/HS was home to the 3rd CultureFEST in 2016, a massive multi-cultural event open to the public and where all CLF schools’ participate. The auditorium available is unique to CMIT South and CMIT South MS/HS has hosted several events to support the Liberal Arts of our community from art shows, plays, to the massive Annual CLF CultureFEST. The CMIT South community contributes in the form of various student led clubs, sports teams, academic support, and philanthropic ways outside the classroom.
