Dr. Susan Jackson Getty is an educator from Carroll County. For most of her career, she was an early childhood teacher in Head Start, prekindergarten, and kindergarten. In recent years, she was a Career Coordinator providing internships to high school seniors. In addition, she was an adjunct faculty member at Carroll Community College teaching child development courses to childcare staff, and later taught Curriculum and Instruction courses to graduate students at McDaniel College.

Dr. Getty was raised in Carroll County and graduated from North Carroll High School, earned her B.S. from Virginia Tech, M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Virginia, and an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also earned national certification in early childhood education from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

She has worked for the YWCA in Baltimore City, served on the board for Carroll Lutheran School, and, most recently, was a member of the Governor’s P-20 Leadership Council of Maryland. She and her husband, Joe, raised their six children in Manchester; all are graduates of Carroll County Public Schools. Her two granddaughters attend public school in Montgomery County.
