Maryland Child Care Workforce Survey

MSDE Launches Maryland Child Care Workforce Survey to Better Understand the Experiences and Challenges of Early Caregivers

The new survey will help MSDE better understand the experiences and challenges of early caregivers to help Maryland retain child care employees in their jobs

The Maryland State Department of Education announces the launch of the Maryland Child Care Workforce Survey. The online survey, designed and administered by the University of Virginia (UVA), will help MSDE to better understand the experiences and challenges of early caregivers in Maryland and to help retain child care employees in their jobs. The survey asks early educators about their site/program, the kinds of children they serve, challenges to teaching, professional development, staffing, compensation, and other factors that may relate to site/program satisfaction. The survey also includes questions about early childhood educators’ well-being. Read more about the research survey on the UVA website.

The survey will launch on August 3, 2023, and will be sent to a sample of 25,0000 early childhood educators who are (a) currently employed at licensed MSDE child care providers, and (b) who teach or care for children aged 0 to 5 (before Kindergarten). Invited early educators will receive invitations to take the survey via email or text message. To thank early educators for participating, invitees who complete the survey will instantly receive a $25 gift card via email.
