What makes us unique?

Hampstead Hill Academy (HHA) is a public charter conversion school serving students from PreK through 8th grade. Knowledge, rigor and mastery are key components of our instructional program. 100% of our kindergartners are reading. All middle school students take honors level, weighted courses in science and social studies. We offer the opportunity to take and master Algebra I in eighth grade in order to start high school in Algebra II. We emphasize fluency and accuracy.

Community:

  • We have Family Academic Nights, Student Celebration Nights, and Community Arts Nights, which are all opportunities that foster and promote parent engagement and celebrate student, family and community achievements.
  • We have three live outdoor music festivals each spring featuring professional artists.
  • We produce a musical each year. Past shows include Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Hairspray. Historically, every show sells out.
  • Partnerships with Canton Railroad Company to supply students in need with school supplies and our Spectacular Express Program.
  • Patterson Park Audubon Center has been a partner with Hampstead Hill Academy since 2002. This partnership connects students with nature using the many habitats that Patterson Park provides as a classroom.

Mission and Vision:

Hampstead Hill seeks to be a safe, nurturing, diverse, family-friendly neighborhood school with rigorous, effective academic programs and exciting, engaging, extracurricular activities. We believe all parents want the same thing for their children: more and better opportunities for college and career. We believe in the importance of the arts, and we want our students to be great communicators, listeners and writers. Our students will be forward thinkers, persistent, responsible, caring, dependable and healthy members of the greater community.

Our mission is to develop, implement, and advocate for an innovative, sustainable, and replicable education model that improves student outcomes. In so doing, the Baltimore Curriculum Project will help to raise educational standards and opportunities for disadvantaged youth and Baltimore City schools.

Hampstead Hill Academy is a neighborhood public charter school that exists to educate children living in both our attendance area and throughout Baltimore City. Our talented staff uses research-based curriculum to develop and implement rigorous lesson plans that continuously raise the academic bar for our students. Our whole school community is dedicated to working together to challenge our students to succeed in a fair, consistent, just and joyful learning environment.

Principal's Message:

I am proud to see HHA’s kindergarten students move so quickly from “learning to read” to “reading to learn”, which takes the best curriculum and an incredibly caring and talented staff to make happen. It is wonderful to listen to students communicate effectively with each other in community-building and restorative circles.  This clear, kind communication creates a sense of joy and makes students and staff want to come to school. Finally, the quality of writing instruction in our middle school is first rate and truly prepares students for what is next.
