Legends Charter School has a school departmentalized design. Departmentalization is the practice of dividing the instructional responsibility of teachers according to the content area. Through this model, students receive daily instruction from a combination of teachers who specialize in and teach a specific content area. By concentrating on fewer disciplines, teachers can better craft rigorous and engaging lessons for students. Departmentalization goes beyond delivering content and increasing test scores; it allows teachers to collaborate on curriculum and student progress and share their passions for a subject. Departmentalization maximizes available resources to ensure teacher effectiveness.

Legends Fellow supports our innovative school design above and beyond the duties and expectations of traditional teacher aides and paraprofessionals. The Legends Fellow's role is to support Legends Social-Emotional Learning Programming specifically, students' attendance, behavior, culture, and academics. The Legends Fellows will be trained and led by the Director of Social Emotional Learning (DSEL) and the Student Support Team to add value to the classroom's support.

Legends Director of Social Emotional Learning (DSEL) will lead the school's holistic approach to Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) that serves as the backbone of our culture. It utilizes the Teacher Fellow to cascade the implementation of Legend's desired culture. The DSEL provides direct support and interventions to students, consults with Fellows and Teachers, families, and other school employed mental health professionals to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to enhance school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services. The DSEL will consult on complicated cases where there are significant needs or risk factors. 

Legends Charter School will incorporate a unique focus on financial literacy, introducing the Legends Full Circle of Financial Education. This exceptional financial education offers Legends Financial Literacy Curriculum, Legends Circle of Investing Enrichment, and Legends Virtual Stock Simulation Enrichment. The financial literacy curriculum, in line with State of Maryland Financial Literacy standards, addresses areas of knowledge and understanding fundamental to financial literacy: earning income, buying goods and services, using credit, saving, investing, protecting and insuring. Legends will offer scholars a unique one hundred percent voluntary enrichment opportunity to establish investment accounts with TD Bank's sister company TD Ameritrade. Legends Scholars will additionally be able to participate in the TD Virtual Stock Simulation, where they will be allowed to invest in the market through a stock simulation. This program will be led by the Legends Financial Literacy Director and a TD Bank Instructor who will not be responsible for the student's academic progress.

Community:

In addition to the TD Bank Wow! Zone curriculum, Legends will offer the scholars a unique enrichment opportunity to establish investment accounts with TD Bank's sister company TD Ameritrade. This will be facilitated by the Legends Financial Literacy Coordinator and a TD Bank Instructor. Families will also have access to free TD Bank and TD Ameritrade resources. Additionally, for families who choose additional support, they will have an option to speak with certified Financial Planners. We will hold monthly brown bag sessions to provide information on what it means to have an investment account and facilitate opening the account. Families that participate will be responsible for signing authorizations and waivers. A yearly calendar of monthly speakers and topics will be developed in conjunction with our stakeholder's needs and interests. Legends will provide continued on-site and online support for parents, guardians, and the Legends community. We also own Equity Now Inc's Facebook Circle of Investing Group, https://www.facebook.com/LegendsSchools/, to foster a discussion around the creation of Generational Wealth through investing in the market!
