World Languages Elementary STEM Curriculum Modules

Maryland's competitive edge depends on the preparation of graduates who are highly skilled in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and proficient in languages other than English. As part of Maryland's Federal Race to the Top funding, the WORLD LANGUAGES PIPELINES project was designed to plan and implement K-5 programs in Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish. Content-enriched STEM modules were developed collaboratively by Maryland teachers and the Maryland State Department of Education, along with a group of national consultants. These modules provide resources for language teachers that are infused with STEM content and designed and taught with an interdisciplinary and problem-solving approach.

The following modules are available in English, Arabic, Chinese and Spanish upon request. They include detailed scripted lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations and student worksheets. For access to the modules, please contact susan.spinnato@maryland.gov.
