The Maryland State Department of Education Office of College and Career Pathways has developed a framework embedded in an inquiry-based approach for local school systems and community colleges to
examine their CTE enrollment and performance data, identify and prioritize growth opportunities,
conduct root cause analyses,
explore
evidence-based intervention strategies, and
outline specific action plans to enhance access to opportunity in high-quality CTE for each student. This framework is aligned with Maryland's new vision for CTE and Statement on Equity, along with Advance CTE's Statement on Equity and Pushing the Limits: A Roadmap for Advancing CTE Without Limits.
To implement this new framework, the Division of Career and College Readiness facilitated a series of professional learning workshops for local school systems and community colleges. The workshops in this three-part CTE Growth Opportunities Data Analysis Professional Learning Series were designed to train CTE teams from local school systems and community colleges to conduct data-driven deep discussions amongst themselves and within local communities, including those currently under-served by CTE. The primary purpose of this work is to provide insight and propel meaningful action to enhance access to opportunity in high-quality CTE for each student. Moreover, as local school systems and community colleges work to evaluate their programs of study and identify areas with the greatest need for growth, these series of workshops will help strengthen synergies and build harmonious connections between Maryland's Perkins Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment, Perkins Local Application, and Consolidated Perkins and MOA Monitoring process.
This training opportunity and these resources were compiled through a partnership between the Maryland State Department of Education, Office of College and Career Pathways, and Advance CTE.
