The Maryland State Department of Education's School Library Media Program provides leadership, coordination, and support services for the implementation of the
Maryland School Library Media Standards for Learners, Librarians, and Libraries.
The School Library Media Specialist is a leader, teacher, instructional partner, program administrator, and information specialist who is instrumental in creating an equitable, welcoming, and flexible space that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving to ensure college and career success.

The MDK12 Digital Library is a statewide purchasing consortium created to serve all 24 Local School Systems and non-public schools in Maryland. The project has existed under state statute Section §7-9A-01 through §7-9A-05 Annotated Code of Maryland since 2009 and is coordinated through the MSDE, Digital Learning and School Library Media Branch.
