About the test

ACCESS for ELLs is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment administered to kindergarten through 12th grade students who have been identified as Multilingual learners (MLs). It is administered annually to MLs to monitor and report their progress toward English language proficiency and to monitor their progress in learning academic English. The test assess the four language domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

ACCESS for ELLs has three components:

  • Kindergarten ACCESS for ELLs (paper)
  • ACCESS for ELLs (online/paper)
  • Alternate ACCESS for ELLs (paper)
